Breakfast Club

St Stephen’s School Breakfast Club aims to provide pupils of all ages with a safe and fun place to start their school day.

The club is informal and friendly, allowing children a choice as to how they start the day: some children like to wake up slowly, others prefer to get on and play. The club provides for both, quiet space (for reading, etc.) and a free play area, as well as more structured activities. Play, rather than education, is at the heart of the club.

Each morning breakfast is provided. The children are encouraged to help themselves, sit down and talk together, and then clear up their dishes: the idea is that our breakfast replicates as far as possible the atmosphere of a family meal. At the end of the session, the children are well fed, happy and ready to learn.

Cost

Breakfast Club has a fixed cost of £4.00 per session, which includes a choice of breakfast and fun activities. The cost does not change depending on the time you arrive or if you choose not to have breakfast with us.

Registering with Breakfast Club

Bookings can only be accepted for children who have registered for Breakfast Club on iPAL.

Bookings/Payments

Places are limited and allocated on a first come, first served basis. We use a system called iPAL and families can book sessions up to one full term in advance. A waiting list is on offer should a session be fully booked. Payment is required at the time of booking.

Non-Attendance

It is vital you inform us if your child is not attending the club, including through illness.

Cancellations

If you wish to cancel a session please do so as soon as you can, so that the places can be given to other children.

Opening Times

We are open from 7.45-8.50am every weekday during term time (excluding Inset days). Your child(ren) can be dropped off at any time between these times via the gate at the back of the hall.

We serve breakfast until 8.30am. Please ensure your child arrives in plenty of time if you wish them to eat with us.

Signing In

It is vital that children attending Breakfast Club are signed in.

Food

We provide unlimited food and we encourage all children to eat and drink something. Everyday we offer:

  • A choice of at least 3 different cereals.
  • Toast with a selection of spreads (e.g. Jams, Marmite, Honey, Lemon Curd and Marmalade)
  • Fruit juice, milk (soya available on request) and water; hot chocolate in the winter.
  • A choice of fresh or dried fruit

Occasionally, the menu is supplemented with seasonal treats: different bakery goods; porridge; yoghurts etc.

Where possible, any special diets will be catered for. We also look for opportunities for the children to cook and prepare food, as appropriate.

Staff

All members of staff are DBS-checked and hold appropriate qualifications in first aid, food hygiene, child and play work.

Communication

We aim for each child to be happy and comfortable at the breakfast club.  Any information relevant to a particular day can be discussed briefly at drop-off. If you have any more detailed issues that you would like to discuss with club staff, then you can arrange a mutually convenient time for a telephone call or short meeting outside of club operation times.

As you will appreciate, the breakfast club staff have several children to look after and cannot pass individual messages on to class teachers. If there is something that the class teacher needs to know, then please email or phone the school office.
