Trips and Visits

School trips and visits are an integral part of learning at St Stephen’s.

There are currently two residential visits.

  1. The Year 4 children have a weekend trip to Newbarn Field Study centre in Dorset (http://www.newbarn.co.uk) where they visit a Celtic settlement, eat fish and chips by the seaside and visit Brownsea Island, amongst other activities.
  2. Year 6 spend a week away at Abernant Lake Hotel, an outdoors and adventurous activities centre in Brecon, Wales, (http://www.manoradventure.com/school_activity/abernant.php) The children take part in up to 19 different activities varying from abseiling to zip wire.

Both residentials aim to develop the children’s independence whilst at the same time foster a sense of team.

In addition, children from every year group take part in a range of curriculum linked trips throughout the year to local museums and places of interest. These range from places such as the SS Great Britain; The Sealife Centre; Rocks East Woodlands; The Lifeskills Centre in Bristol and Bath Abbey.

The children may also visit the immediate local area on foot, visiting local historic sites such as St Mary’s Charlcombe as well as attending termly services as St Stephen’s church.
